- There are rules for the registration of players. Any person who wants to play is welcome to join or make up a team of his / her own. The only restriction is that the player must qualify for the minimum age for the league in which his / her team is participating in. Each league has its minimum age requirement, which is the minimum age the player must be as at 31st December 2009. Therefore to play in the 30 to 39 age grouping, the player must have turned 30 before 31st December 2009.
No player can play for two teams that are participating in the same age group. However a player can play for two or more teams that are not participating in the same league, as long as he / she qualify to play in terms of age. For example, a 51 year old male can play in the 50+ league, and / or the 40 to 49 league, and / or the 30 to 39 league. However, anyone who registers for 3 leagues will be certified as insane. Please note, that any player who registers for more than one team must pay R250 for each extra team he / she registers for.
Any player caught playing in two / three teams without having registered correctly will be disqualified from continued participation in the rest of the tournament, i.e. from both / all teams. Team coordinators please be warned.
- Any new player introduced by a team during the tournament will be required to pay the full registration fee before taking part in the tournament.
The number of games that can be played during the weekend is dictated by the total court time available and the number of teams registering. Each game will have 4 quarters of 10 minutes, with a running clock. There will be a maximum of 1 time out per quarter, regardless of which team calls it, and during this time, the clock will stop. Half time will be 4 minutes with 1 minute between 1st and second quarter, and 3rd and 4th quarter.
Please note, the games clock will start on time at the designated time.
- If one of the teams is not present or ready, the time lost will be forfeited.
- If a team is not on the court, and properly registered on the score sheet, by the end of the first quarter, that team will forfeit the game. Referees who do not start the games on time may forfeit part of their game fees, so be warned, they will have little or no sympathy for late comers.
- During the round robin part of the competition, if a game is drawn, there will be no extra time played. Points for games will be allocated, 5 for a win, 3 for a draw, 1 for a loss and 0 for a forfeit.
- In a case of a round robin league, if two teams are tied at the top of the log, the winner will we decided based on results of the teams when they played the round robin.
- If there is a three way tie, then the result will be determined on each teams point’s difference. If it is still a tie, the team with the least fouls will win.
- In the case of a draw in a final, there will be a 5 minute extra time added on. If the game is still drawn, then the first field basket, i.e. not free shot, will determine the winner.
Other than the tournament rules above, normal FIBA playing rules will apply.
